Referrals & Medicare
A referral is a request to a specialist or a consultant physician for investigation, opinion, treatment and /or management of a condition or problem of a patient. To be eligible for a Medicare rebate all visits an active referral must be in place.
New Patients: All NEW patients must be referred either by their general practitioner (GP) or another specialist. A valid referral must be made available at the initial appointment.
Existing Patients: Please check with the reception staff for your referral status prior to your next appointment.
Endocrinology Melbourne operates an automated text appointment reminder system to confirm all appointments. Patients with mobile phones are encouraged to register for SMS reminders which are generated from within our appointment software.
You will be reminded to attend the clinic for an appointment 7 days prior to your appointment date.
Cancellations and Rescheduling
It is the practice policy that all patients must give a minimum of 48 hours’ notice for all cancellations and appointment rescheduling. Failure to do so may incur a fee.
If you are unable to attend, no longer require your appointment or need to reschedule your appointment, we would appreciate you calling to cancel so the time may be made available to other patients.
Endocrinology Melbourne is a private billing clinic and it is the policy of this practice that all accounts are required to be paid in full on the day of consultation. This clinic does not Bulk Bill.
Discounted fees apply to all eligible Pension or Health Care Card holders. (Please present you’re your Concession cards when you attend your appointment). DVA Patients are bulk billed.
Our current fees are displayed at Reception and revised July each year. Please contact our office for a list of fees applicable.
Endocrinology Melbourne accepts payment by cash, cheque, eftpos and credit card (Visa &Mastercard). We do not accept AMEX.
Endocrinology Melbourne operates the TYRO Eftpos system that allows patients to receive Medicare rebates within 48 hours. Please note it is advisable for patients to have registered their bank account with Medicare.
Our office hours are Monday & Tuesday 8.30-4.30pm, Wednesday & Thursday 8.30-5.30.pm and Friday 8.30-1.30pm
Outside of the Practice’s normal hours of operation patients are advised to contact their GP, in cases of medical emergency, patients can seek assistance from their local emergency hospital department.

Our Credentialled Diabetes Educators (CDEs) have been providing individualised, comprehensive education and support to people and their families with Type 1, Type 2 and Gestational diabetes, as well as those at risk of developing diabetes since 2007. No matter what age you are, we are here to help you understand your condition, learn valuable self-management strategies and to live well with diabetes every day.
Our staff are all Registered Nurses (RNs) who have completed further studies in Diabetes Education and have achieved Credentialling status through the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA). CDEs have demonstrated experience and expertise in diabetes education and a commitment to professional development and ongoing learning.
Recognition as a CDE provides assurance to people with or at risk of diabetes, their families, carers and other health care providers that they can expect to receive quality diabetes education and advice.

The Food Clinic is run by passionate dietitian Denise Burbidge. Opening in 2012, the food clinic has grown from providing individual services to include a range of services to support clients, both individuals and organisations to improve health through understanding nourishing foods.
The Food Clinic supports individual clients to better manage health and chronic conditions such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, coeliac disease and irritable bowel syndrome. Consultations are provided in rooms in Essendon, Toorak and Heidelberg and some home visiting services are available on request.
Services for organisations include corporate nutrition presentations, staff education sessions and a range of food service supports including menu reviews. Working with catering organisations, especially those involved in healthcare and retirement living, to better understand planning nourishing menus and managing special diets such as allergies is a real passion for Denise.
